Confirmation Reunion!

This Sunday, May 20th, is Trinity’s first Confirmation Reunion.

What is a Confirmation Reunion?

It’s a chance for us to celebrate the blessing of confirmation-the affirmation of our baptismal vows.

Guest pastor Rev. Ernie Knoche, a son of Trinity, will be preaching at both services.

Following the 11:00am service we will have a light lunch reception in Belvedere Hall so we can spend time in fellowship.

Everyone, whether you were confirmed at Trinity, another church, or have not been confirmed, is invited to join us for this festive celebration!

Voter’s Meeting

This Sunday after late service there will be a voters meeting for Trinity Lutheran Ev. Church.

We will be discussing and approving a budget as well as officers for the 2012-2013 year.

A light lunch will be provided.

Flowering of the Easter Cross

Bring your flowers to Trinity on Easter Sunday morning to join the tradition of the “Flowering of the Easter Cross.”

After the repentant season of Lent and after the suffering of Good Friday we join in a celebration of God’s overpowering eternal love for each one of us. As part of our celebration, throughout the morning people take flowers from their homes and place them on the cross in front of  the church.

Bring your flowers and have fun celebrating the resurrection of Jesus!

Triduum at Trinity

Triduum is the Latin word meaning “Three Days” and is given to the series of worship from the evening of Maundy Thursday to the morning of Easter Sunday.

Join the Trinity family as we celebrate Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

The services over these several days are actually one long gathering for worship. Don’t worry-you get to go home between each service and each service lasts around an hour.

Each one allows you to discover the depth and richness of God’s love for humanity shown in Jesus and how this love is given to you.

We pray that you will be able to join us for worship this week!

Godspeed to the USS Enterprise

As the USS Enterprise leaves our waters our prayers go out with the families in our church, school and community who have loved ones on the Enterprise. May God protect your brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, husbands, wives, loved ones, and friends as they serve our nation on the final deployment for the Enterprise.

If you are connected with Enterprise, or any ship currently deployed, and are in need of support be sure to contact your Fleet & Family Readiness or Trinity’s Operation Barnabas.

Join Us In Prayer

Would you be willing to commit to pray daily for God’s work to be done here and around the world? Pastor Smith posed that question at our Midweek Lent service tonight.

He challenged us to join with our brothers and sisters in Christ throughout the Southeastern District and become prayer partners with the district. A prayer partner with the district prays for missionaries and new missions that share the amazing message of God’s Love and Power to a lost and hurting world.

Please join hundreds of others throughout the Southeastern district by committing to be a Mission Prayer Partner for the Southeastern District.

Join us each Wednesday during Lent

Join us each Wednesday during Lent for a time of fellowship followed by worship.

Soup and bread suppers begin each Wednesday at 5:30 with Service following at 7pm.

This year’s Lenten theme is Repentant Reflection. Each week we will reflect on a different prayer of Jesus and how it shows us our need for repentance and God’s great love for us.

Join us each Wednesday!

Lent at Trinity

Lent is a season of repentant reflection at Trinity. A time when we come together and focus our attention on our need for a savior and the suffering Christ experienced in our place.

It lasts 40 days (plus Sundays) from Ash Wednesday to Holy Week. Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday and includes Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday.

Palm Sunday is the Sunday before Easter and it has a dual purpose. First, it celebrates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem where people lay palms and shout praises to Jesus. But, it also takes us to the cross, since it is the last Sunday before Easter.

Maundy Thursday takes us to the upper room where Jesus gives the disciples (and us) two commands (maundy is derived from the Latin word meaning “to command”). First is to “take and eat” his body and “take and drink” his blood in the bread and wine of the Lord’s Supper. Second is “to love one another as I love you.” Finally, it takes us to the Garden where Jesus prepares Himself for Judas’ betrayal. At Trinity we celebrate Maundy Thursday with a special evening service at 7pm. We conclude this service by removing all the decoration from the altar (stripping of the altar) in preparation for Good Friday.

Good Friday takes us from the garden to the Cross and the Tomb. We intensely focus ourselves on the suffering of Jesus and how it is because of me that Jesus had to suffer and die in my place. We remember this day with two different services. First, in the morning in conjunction with our school we have a Last Words of Christ Service where we hear the words of Jesus from the cross. In the evening we commemorate Good Friday with a Tenebre service.  This is a powerful service of increasing darkness that focuses us on the intense suffering of Christ and the darkness that came because of Christ’s death.

Easter Vigil is the Saturday between Good Friday and Easter Sunday. While there is no community worship at Trinity on this day, it is a time for us to expectantly wait for the promised resurrection. It’s that “inbetween” time-yes Jesus died on the cross, but he hasn’t risen yet. It’s a time for us to realize that salvation is not easy. It was a major sacrifice on God’s part for us to be brought back to him.

Our celebrations culminate with Easter! The day that we remember Jesus rising from the grave-proving that not only did He die for our sins but that he has conquered sin, death, and the Devil! We have multiple worship services and special celebrations.

From the repentant reflection of Lent to the jubilant exuberance of Easter-we invite you to join us to worship and reflect with the Trinity community this Lenten and Easter season.
